VERY snowy.

this site often has a camera pointed at the bells and pyramid. Probably pretty snowy.

I was up there 2 weekends ago, before the last snowstorm. The lake had no snow, but the Bells were covered.

Also realize that the base of Aspen is at 7900ft and the summit is at about 11,200. So expect much more snow than you see on the cams.

The last one of the series shows the bells and pyramid at times. Earlier this morning it was showing aspen mountain, now it is showing the bells. I think that they rotate it around some to various views. But, looking at the cam now, it appears that there is significant snow.

Thanks, all. I've been itching to get this one climbed, and just ran out of weekends this summer. Someone had told me the snow ascent is easier because of the rotten rock...just gotta decide if I want to grab the ice axe and crampons, or let it sit there for next summer.

There's a big difference between November snow and May snow. My suggestion is to wait until Spring.

For what it's worth, I didn't think the rock on Pyramid was all that bad and certainly not as loose as its reputation makes it sound. There was no snow on it when we climbed it, but I can't imagine a snow climb would be easier. Whenever you go, have a great time--it is an awesome peak!

Like a number of the steeper peaks, Pyramid really is easier with snow. But, like previously mentioned that's springtime snow, not the junk that's on the ground right now. It would be downright treacherous right now...

I absolutely agree with you here. Pyramid on dry rock would certainly be easier and safer than in snow, even spring snow. My two cents...

I'm going to call it a toss up. The difficulties just come in different spots in the different seasons. But to the original poster...it would not be a fun day right now. Just imagine trying to climb a bunch of rock ledges covered in tiny ball bearings...

You might be right, Pyramid might be a toss up. You brought it up and I remembered I've only done the NW ridge in summer, so I actually can't compare.
