Great snowshoeing with children near Denver

Postby Spam » Tue Nov 03, 2009 11:23 am

My boys and I love to snowshoe, I am getting a bit bored of the usual places we go (they love Lair o the Bear and Mt. Falcon). I am wanting to take them to some new places to explore. Any suggestions for great places to snowshoe with kids (10 and 7) for day long adventures? thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you are looking for some places that aren't extremely difficult? Most ot the places that I know are an hour or two from the city, but they might be worth the drive for you!

You might check out the Brainard Lake area, as it is a popular snowshoeing/skiing destination just outside of the Indian Peaks Wilderness, and has a number of trails without a lot of elevation gain. I've heard that Golden Gate Canyon SP also offers some decent snowshoeing, but this is only based on hearsay since I've never been there.

....that is correct...although i am wanting to get them to start climbing more in elevation and challenging themselves more. I keep forgetting about Golden Gate.....that is good. An hour or two drive is nothing...i consider that close to Denver.

Echo Lake is a great spot too, easy and flat around the lake, or for a little more adventure, head up hill towards the Mt. Evans road. The trail up to Dream Lake in RMNP could be a good one also. Good luck!
