Favorite 14er

Postby Vicious-Peanut » Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:21 am

I thought this might be a fun topic. What is everyone's favorite 14, going only by looks. If you posted your favorite picture of it that would be great. :)

Mine would have to be Mt. Sneffels.

Well, I still have 13 to go, but I suppose my favorite thus far has been Crestone Needle.

I'd have to go with Capitol also. It's great from several angles. Here it is from Daley (the one near Marble)

And here it is from near the standard trailhead

I would have to say Uncompahgre, going only by looks.

Tough call, but I'll go with El Diente & Mt Wilson

Cool choices so far. I was torn between Uncompahgre and Capitol too.

I'd go with Holy Cross for now. My first 14er. And a beautiful mountain, sitting above the valley and waterfall below. I'll post some of my pics tonight if I remember to.

North Maroon an Sneffels, purely from a "snapshot beauty" standpoint, are pretty awesome. I intend on saving both of those as some of my last few to climb.

If most beautiful Colorado 14er climb/hike, I have only done 3 of them and I am not qualified to vote. If most beautiful to look at from afar I vote Maroon Bells. I don't care if north or south peak, the two together help create the scene. Some places are tourist traps for a reason. The classic calendar/post card shot from Aspen is classic for a reason.

Just to be clear, I did not take this picture. I just have seen the view once in person (back in July of 1993) and seen it in many pictures, so I just went and grabbed one off the web via google images. I did not mean to plagurize someone else's work. I am also very impressed by the beauty of the reddish rock from other people's trip report photos on the Bells from this site.

I like George's Longs photos above. Long's came to mind when I thought about this, as did Snowmass.

Based on looks alone I'm going to have to collectively go with the Crestones because of the way they tower over the Sand Dunes in the distance, the ominous look you get at them from Kit Carson and Challenger, but mostly for the way they rise maginificently out of the South Colony Lakes.

I have a special spot in my heart for Sneffles and Uncompaghre.
