Borah Pk.

Was reading a thread that mentioned this mtn and then did a little research on it and its looks pretty cool. Never been to Idaho and I just got the idea to give it a shot this summer, why the hell not.

Has anyone climbed this one before or the surrounding mtns? How far is it from Denver and if I was to go up there, what are some other good mtns to do in the area for a weekend or could you climb a couple peaks in one day? Thanks for the info.

Helmet,

Borah Peak is almost 800 miles from Denver. I haven't researched any other nearby peaks, but I'm sure there are some other peaks and areas to see in Idaho. Borah is a short hike, but about 5,400' of elevation gain, so its probably enough for a day. Have you seen these Borah route pics and description?

I'm planning on driving up there on Saturday August 11th and then climbing Borah on Sunday. From there I would go to Glacier for a few days and the come down to hit Granite Peak, MT on Aug 15. However, if you drove up and wanted to climb Borah together, it would be cool to have someone along.

Lost River Range

Idaho has nine 12ers including Borah. I really like the Lost River Range and think they are definitely worth visiting.

This is an old trip report with terrible photos.

My old climbing partner in Idaho has a good page on Borah too.

TM,

That actually sounds like a really good plan, I was sitting here thinking that was a good weekend to go and then when you said this, I think I'm sold. I'm not sure if I could swing Glacier, just don't know my schedule, but as the date gets closer, we should try and work something out for Borah.

Helmut,

We probably needed to meet this summer anyway! So, maybe we can get together for a hike or backpack in May or June. In May I'll be doing Horseshoe (centennial near Fairplay) and maybe Mount Hope or Ouray the third weekend. In June a few of us may do San Luis and Stewart Peak in mid-month. Conundrum and Castle possibly eary June. Kit Carson, Challenger (Adams for me) in late June. Also, possibly Blanca group at the end of June. Stay in touch and let me know if you want to join up on some of these.

Borah is a nice climb, especially when there is snow to make things interesting! I did it a couple years ago in June and pretty much had to stay on the ridge proper the whole time b/c of snow. It would be a straightforward class 3 when dry. Leatherman, which is right next to Borah, looks to be a nice climb. Here's my TR:

I hope to do Granite and/or Gannett next year, so post a TR when you do it, Talus!

Kevin,

Will do. Look for a TR on Borah and Granite in August. Gannett will have to wait until 2008. Maybe we can get together for that next summer.

Talus,

I'll PM you later either this weekend or next week regarding some climbs this summer, after 4 yrs of solo climbs, it'll be nice to finally have some company here and there, although I do still love my solo adventures. Either way, I'm game for anything after May is over, won't be around much then.
