Today is Colorado Gives Day. Want to promote mountaineering safety and education? You could consider making a donation to the STEVE GLADBACH MEMORIAL FUND at the Colorado Mountain Club.

http://www.coloradogives.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

type in the search field: Colorado Mountain Club

below the CMC logo, click on "Donate."

And in the "Special instructions or comments" field add: STEVE GLADBACH MEMORIAL FUND.

I found out that $175 was contributed to the STEVE GLADBACH MEMORIAL FUND with the CMC.org on Colorado Gives Day.

Thank you to those that gave.

And in the spirit of this giving season…

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Dear Climbing Community,

There has been 700 views of Video 1: Who Was Steve Gladbach?
And there have been 571 views of Video 2: Avalanche Awareness

This is good but I am sure there are still people who could benefit from seeing these two videos and then being encouraged to read a book, take a class, get some education.

Please pass the word, share this thread link on your Facebook pages, lets not have any accidents over the holidays as people head out to the mountains to ski or climb. And....

Merry Christmas!

Today, I just learned of the first avalanche death in Colorado this winter. You can read some of the details here:

http://avalanche.state.co.us" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Scroll down a bit and on the right side of the page you can see:

First CO Avalanche Death.

My condolences to the family of this person.

As you will see on this CAIC webpage, this is the 4th US avalanche death this season.

If you haven't already, please go to the beginning of this thread and watch the Steve Gladbach Memorial Moments videos….especially the video posted in the 3rd post in this thread on Avalanche Awareness. It truly can be a matter of life or death.

I am sure many of us are starting to get "spring fever" and looking to climb 14ers or ski couloirs. However, there has been a good amount of new snow that has come to the Colorado high country in the past week. So, I thought it would be a good idea to revive this thread. I would like encourage folks (especially those new to climbing or 14ers.com) to watch this video on Avalanche Awareness.
globreal wrote:Attached is Video 2 in the series to carry on Steve Gladbach's legacy. Steve was a huge winter climber, and was exceptional at reading and avoiding avalanche danger. This video focuses on things to think about before venturing out on a winter mountaineer climb. The goal is to raise awareness and point folks to educational opportunities.

Onwards!
Britt

These are very well done videos. I intend to help spread them.

Thank all of you for your work on these.

I appreciate these videos and the efforts of those who made them, carrying on the legacy of helping & educating others. I am not very active with CMC, although I do maintain my membership, and when I renewed a few months ago I asked them to earmark my extra donation for the Steve Gladbach Memorial Fund. Is this fund something which will remain "active" for awhile and/or are there more educational videos (or other activities) planned?
