Ben Clark's Nolan's 14 Trip Report

Post by dehrlich101 »

Ben Clark attempted Nolan's 14 twice this summer. This is his trip report for his second attempt.

Awesome report, the Nolan's route sounds like a blast.

I'm curious if there's a name for just doing the Nolan's route and not worrying about your time. I think I'd like to give it a shot at some point in my life but I doubt I'll ever have the time to get into the kind of shape necessary to even dream about the 60 hour time limit. If I were to someday just backpack the Nolan's route over the course of a week I obviously wouldn't it a Nolan's attempt in my trip report but what would I call it?

Slolans?

I do like the idea of a slow version of Nolan's.

Nolans thru-hike. I was considering it. Should take about 10 days. 14 peaks but you can double up on Shav/Tab, and on Harvard/Columbia, and on Bel/Ox/Mizz. Junaid and Luke did it in 9 days IIRC, having done Huron on the Bel/Ox/Mizz day from a very high camp.

Dammit! You got me. I am planning this trip for next year. Just planning on hiking the entire route in whatever time it takes (ignoring the 60hrs) and was planning nicknaming my trip "Slowlans 14" =D>

I think I could do pretty well in this competition. I could be the slowest for sure!

Well worth doing even if you don't have a specific time goal. Some of the sections would be quite a bit trickier with a large pack in my opinion (ascent/descent of Princeton and south side of Huron).
