Princeton Conditions

We are planning to climb Princeton this Sunday, but now I am a bit anxious with the recent tragic rockslide at nearby Agnes Vaille Falls. Has anyone climbed Princeton in the last few days/is there much snow on top? Is the climb safe with microspikes? Also, is the the 4WD road open to the Radio Towers? Thanks for any recent information.

Don't worry too much about that event. It can happen on any mountain anywhere. I might be more worried about access to the area as there were indications that the road up to the Agnes Vaille Falls trailhead may be closed for days. Not sure what that will mean for access to the surrounding areas for non residents.

I hiked Princeton on Sunday and conditions were good. A little snow across parts of the trail in 5' to 10' stretches, but not enough to need microspikes. Overall, trail is pretty clear all the way to the top. Didn't look like it got as much snow as the surrounding peaks.

Road up to the Radio Towers was fine except for the trunk of a downed tree making the road narrow at one spot. Made it past in an Xterra with a little guidance though.

We did Antero (just South of Princeton) yesterday and had no problems. There was a bit of paranoia as we passed the body recovery on Princeton on the way up there and a little more every time a little pebble or small rock would come bouncing down the hill above us. But all and all it felt solid and good times were had. Be alert, keep your situation awareness up and you should be just fine.
