Kite Lake Trailhead

Postby spartan7mg » Wed Sep 25, 2013 3:37 pm

I have read that the road is open to the trail head and I wanted to verify if the last mile was too bad for 2WD? The Kite TH page only rates it as a 2.

Thanks.

The road was in good shape last weekend and numerous 2WD made it to Kite Lake. If the road is dry, you should be okay.

I drove up in my Outback yesterday, it was fine all the way to the TH. Lots of snow on the trail but there was a good boot pack most of the way. Have fun.

I'm hoping for an update from anyone up there today... A group of us are planning to hit this tomorrow and are wanting to know how the snow from yesterday effected the road & the hiking route. Thanks!

We took my 4Runner up there yesterday. My friend felt his Subaru would have made it fine. That said - I wouldn't have liked taking my Buick up it. The repair to the "wash-out" was done nicely & snow was not an issue on the drive or hike. Windy conditions - still managed to have a great day and tag all 5 points of interest.

I did it a few weeks back in my VW golf without any trouble. The worst spot for me was actually the very beginning of the road where there is a large speed-bump like mound of dirt that came a little too close for comfort to the underside of my car.
