I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

Dont people occasionally find natural gems on Antero?
And I saw that gold panners were out working the recently flooded rivers in hopes the flood knocked a few nuggets loose.

Mt Antero has a lot of aquamarine, but nobody is getting rich off of it.peter303 wrote:Dont people occasionally find natural gems on Antero?

People who find valuable gems don't tell other people. Especially on Antero, where most people are poaching claimsMonGoose wrote:Mt Antero has a lot of aquamarine, but nobody is getting rich off of it.peter303 wrote:Dont people occasionally find natural gems on Antero?

Depends on your definition of "getting rich," but a guy from New York found this aquamarine assemblage, the world's largest, on Antero in 2004. It was valued at more than $500,000.MonGoose wrote: Mt Antero has a lot of aquamarine, but nobody is getting rich off of it.
Sometimes you can learn something by reading newspapers and books.

Please leave all gems and jewels at the top of mountains. They are for Axel and Calvin!
Unlike Andrew Hamilton, I’m not always hiking. Sometimes I’m sleeping.

There's a whole show on The Weather Channel about mining on Antero. I don't think anyone's getting rich, but they seem to make some money. I think the 2nd season will be starting soon.

I believe Steve Brancato (one of the guys featured in the show) found a million dollar pocket on Antero. Most people don't get super rich but ~$75,000 for 40 days of work isn't too bad.JGiffinPhotog wrote:There's a whole show on The Weather Channel about mining on Antero. Ha ha, I guess I should say MOST people don't get TOO rich. Seems like a fair amount of overhead and a lot of hard work for a small shot at a big payoff. The idea of it is definitely romantic though... play in the mountains & make some money while at it! Hard way to make an easy buck.Lemmiwinks wrote:I believe Steve Brancato (one of the guys featured in the show) found a million dollar pocket on Antero. Wow! thanks for the reference.Gareth wrote:Reminds me a lot of this movie: The Mountain
I haven't seen or thought about that movie in years.
Great character movie and the climbing scenes
were realistic enough, not like the hokey crap
thrown at us these days.
