An Arvada man who has hiked more than a dozen 14ers in the last two years is missing in the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

Mark Stice told his wife he was going to hike in the Crestone Peak area over the weekend. When Stice didn't return home on Saturday, his wife called the sheriff's office.

Searchers said they found Stice's car on South Colony Road, southwest of Westcliffe. That means he could have been hiking Humboldt Peak (14,064 feet), Crestone Needle (14,197 feet), Crestone Peak (14,294 feet), Kit Carson Peak (14,165 feet) or Challenger Point (14,081 feet).

The primary search area includes Crestone Peak and Kit Carson Peak, according to the Custer County Search and Rescue incident commander.

Officials said Stice has knowledge of the area and had a fishing rod with him.

Searchers are concerned because the area received snow on Sunday night.
