13er + trout + Durango = ?

Post by Sandbox »

My buddy and I are doing our annual fall camping trip the week after next. We like to combine fishing with (non-technical) peak-bagging, usually setting up a base camp about 8-10 mi from the trailhead. We fly into Durango on Wednesday and have only four days to play around with. I've tentatively decided on a basecamp at Blue Lakes and hitting Sneffels one day, but now I'm second guessing myself because of the proximity of Blue Lakes to the trailhead and the fact that Sneffels is so accessible from the other side. I'm thinking it might be pretty crowded and maybe there's too much fishing/camping pressure at Blue Lakes. I can't seem to find another good fishing lake/14er combo near Durango that might fit the bill. Anybody willing to share a good route with a 13er and good fishing? Figured it can't hurt to ask. Thanks.
