Two others, and they're both elongated in the same direction as the long one. I'd guess it's a very close hailstone or sleet particle falling past, and the other two are further away.

Makes me want to haul a salt block up there for them.
Anyone ever done that?

Yes, it's called peeing! The Chicago Basin goats are all over it!

I have, small ones from a pet store. Marmots like them as well. Years ago I tried to promote that idea, I'm not sure why the fish and game department doesn't do that, maybe there is some reason it's not a good idea. It seems like it would keep the wild critters healthy and less of a nuisance to campers. thread derailment, sorry.

This is from the Georgia Resources Wildlife Division, concerning wild deer populations:
Note: salt and supplemental feed do not improve habitat quality or the carrying capacity of the land. Neither practice is recommended or endorsed by WRD and neither is as valuable as food plots or other habitat management practices
May be apples and oranges to draw conclusions from that, but those aliens (I mean goats, of course) have been successfully managing themselves long before we started peeing on their habitat. It would seem the less they are dependant on humans, the better.

Please don't feed the aliens! :-"

Power to you.

I feed my birds and water the deer.
They're wild and I'm sure the government
would frown on this.
Many of you feed your pets.
What's the difference.

There was no real thread
to derail here anyway.

Not saying give them salt licks or not. I believe the Dept of Wildlife knows what they are doing...but...one thought keeps popping into my head....

Given that they are craving more salt than what the land provides and they are not native to Colorado (but were only introduced into the state in 1947 to provide game for hunters), leads me to believe that the habitat is not perfect for their needs.

As I said, I trust the DOW and the herds seem to be thriving...just a nagging thought, since learning this little fact.

P.S. I liked the alien, goat theory, over the nomadic rain drop. :)
