Wilsons Conditions

Post by Markwise »

Hey all. My group is planning on Mt. Wilson, and possibly Wilson Peak from Rock of Ages tomorrow. We are wondering if anyone who has been up there lately might have the latest on the snow conditions, particularly thinking of Mt. Wilson's North side. We have traction gear with us if necessary but would rather not carry it if the routes are dry.

Thanks !

I'll be in this area in the next few days from the Kilpacker side of the peaks. Judging by the most recent trip report, I assume there won't be much snow but I'm certainly interested to hear from anyone who has been there recently.

I'm hoping for some updated conditions as well. Heading there to hike Mount Wilson (my dad's 54th!) next week and was wondering if we needed to bring ice axes to cross that high gully that usually has snow. Looking forward to the reports.

My son just climbed Mt Wilson last weekend from the Kilpacker side. It was a bit rainy, but very low snow conditions. They said they could have left their ice axes at camp.

The San Juans had a very low snow year. When I hiked Wilson Peak three weeks ago the snow was all but gone.

Update: we did both Wilsons over the last two days and there is no snow near any standard route.

Thanks for the updates. I figured that was going to be the case this year. Good to know I can leave the ice axe at home and not wish I had it, even for a 35' snowfield traverse.
