Georgia Pass Road Conditions? Mt. Guyout

Post by atalarico »

Anyone been up near Georgia Pass? Is the road melted out yet? We went about three weeks ago and there were pretty massive drifts very far down on the road, making our attempt on Guyout a 7 mile approach.

Thanks!

We backpacked from Kenosha pass to Georgia pass this weekend and there is a lot of snow above 10,000 feet.

Made it to 11,000 in a Cherookee. Still alot of snow up there. Saw a Jeep Rubicon chained up turn around. An Outback made it to the same turn around point. Walked about 3/4 mile up the road around noon the snow was very solid but the moment you leave the road your gonna want flotation.

Thanks guys! That's a lot closer than we got a few weeks back. Do you happen to know how many miles from the junction that is? It sounds like it should knock off quite a few miles.

The good news is were up there on the 15th, and with the exception of one drift at about 11,000 feet, the road was completely clear. I'd guess that drift is gone by now, as well. If you're hiking to Glacier or Whale from the parking area at the pass, expect a fair amount of snow in the woods. But once you're out of the woods, you're out of the woods, so to speak. The remainder of the hike to either Glacier or Whale is completely clear.
