NEW! 3D ROUTE FLYOVERS

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Thu Feb 08, 2007 4:01 pm

Ok, I've finally started to created route flyover videos using mapping and terrain data. They will be Flash videos with mouse and key controls for navigation throughout the video. I can't get high-resolution satellite data for all of the 14er routes, but I'll get as many out there as possible. Beware! Each one will be 9 - 15mb in size. Here is the page:

I concur. :) It's amazing.

I'll bet you already know this, but there are some non-satilite images out there too (just aerial photos) that have a level of resolution that might work for the ones without detailed satilite images available. Just a thought...

To conjure bygone times, and shine them bright anew,
To erase the strain of effort from faces of the past,
And resurrect slight triumphs as glories unsurpassed...

Holy crap, that is awesome!!

Bill, how long does it take you to make each of these individual flyovers? Is there any vertical exaggeration in the rendering?

Keep up the great work, yet another feature that sets 14ers.com apart!

Each one takes a while to make because I have to do some tedious frame work on them before adding them to a Flash application.

So far I've used 1.1x vertical exaggeration, which is negligible.

The completed 3D Route Flyovers can now be seen on the Maps page of each individual route description in the Online Guidebook. Just look for this button:
