Fruita/Grand Junction - Name This Rock
Anyone know the name of this rock? It's in the Devils Canyon and Cowboy Hat Tower area, southwest of Fruita. If you're acquainted with the park, the D1 trail goes right past it.
Also, does anyone know the best way to reach its base? That's tomorrow's mission.

I've eyed it from the trail but have never been up close. Going climbing??

All right, since it apparently doesn't have a name, I'm naming it Imperial Rock. That sounds good.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes. Ever get up the Cowboy Hat?
Also, there is a tower a bit further into the canyon that has "Kit Carson" carved into the base of it. Is it authentic? Allegedly, but who knows. Still cool nonetheless.

I vote we name is Mount Crestone Rock, or John Denver Outcrop.

Polluck Tower..... Actually I don't know. Everything over there is named McInnis/Polluck/Rattlesnake/Devil's/Horsethief etc.

Before you start naming things I'd ask around. Especially if it's been climbed (which I believe this has), I'm sure it has already been named. Almost every tower in the GJ area has been named years ago. Stewart Green or Cam Burns would be the ones to ask.ColoradoGuy wrote:...since it apparently doesn't have a name...
