Oh yeah baby, you asked for it - and we're delivering!! I can't really remember who asked for it... it was over beers and I think two of the guys had beards. But, here you go:

“There are two kinds of climbers: those who climb because their heart sings when they’re in the mountains, and all the rest.” - Alex Lowe

"There have been joys too great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I cannot dare to dwell; and with those in mind I say, 'Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

Schweet!

I believe it was discussed at the home of Meat on a Stick, if I recall... or thereabouts.

Nah...it originated at the bar that saw the death of Itza??

Nice Keegan! See you there :-D

That movie's got the best of everything...alpine climbing, grouchy Clint Eastwood, hookers, a Bond-style villain, half-assed plot, and good old-fashioned American shoot-em-up violence. It's almost as thought it were made for Spike TV.

It's on Netflix instant streaming too, for those who can't make it.

I've been trying to stash a six pack of beer in my buddies pack for years while climbing... it never works out the same way as it did in the movie.

Ben Bowman: Wanna Beer?
Jonathan Hemlock: You gonna call room service?
Ben Bowman: We got beer.
Jonathan Hemlock: If you hauled beer up this rock you're insane!
Ben Bowman: I may be insane, but I'm not stupid. I didn't carry it, you did! It's in your pack.
Jonathan Hemlock: Christ, I ought'a throw you off this pillar! Besides, it's warm.
Ben Bowman: Oh I'm sorry, I thought you'd draw the line on haulin' ice.

EDIT: apologies for any spoilers I spoiled herein. I misread the date and thought it had already been watched.

Holy crap. Never again will I trust my climbing partners...if I ever climb again at all, since at 34 I'm way too old for such a young man's game.

Also, if I ever watch this movie again, it will be played side-by-side with a video of someone climbing the whole face in the same amount of time it takes to watch the movie.

Finally, if I ever climb this guy, I will be sure to take some beer instead of a helmet.
