Just kidding. It's never going to snow in CO ever again.

Bah humbug!

It'll snow again...when conditions suck this bad, it's bound to create low pressure.

There's certainly a major depression forming; too bad it's only at ground level.
So pleas'd at first the towering Alps we try,
Mount o'er the vales, and seem to tread the sky,
Th' increasing prospects tire our wand'ring eyes,
Hills peep o'er hills, and Alps on Alps arise!

That was really out of context.......

A significant matter ignored by the author or this article is that much of the methane emanating from the Arctic Sea may very well have come from offshore oil and gas reservoirs under the sea floor. Russia knows about the hydrocarbon reserves in that area and owns the rights to exploit them. Methane emanations occur elsewhere, such as the "eternal fires" surface seeps near Baku, Azerbaijan ... so there is more to methane emanations in this area than just the tundra, for peat's sake ....

"..... two heavy air tankers from Southern California were dispatched to the fire. "What we really need is snow," he said."

"for peat's sake." Was that an intentional pun? If so, well done! =D>

I noticed the "peat" pun too.

It looks like the methane may be coming from sediments on the sea floor
http://www.climatehealth.net/ArticleReduceEmissions.html

"Over 100 billion tons of methane are locked in hydrates embedded in sediments beneath the coastal waters of the Arctic Ocean (Figure 2 and Milkov 2004.) A fraction of those hydrates is shallower than most of the reservoirs of hydrates elsewhere in the world. The global warming potential of the methane in Arctic hydrates is over 2100 billion tons of CO2, or about 80 times the total human-induced annual emissions of CO2."

Looks like Canada is already thinking about the minerals they could get from there

Climate change aside..has anybody been up around Berthoud/Jones/Butler Gulch area recently? I know its probably pretty dry just seeing if there is even enough to go for a mellow tour, really just to stretch the legs...
