Fortunately, going by the author's subsequent commentary, they sound like they are actually pretty benign. Still, it's probably not a place where you would want to take your dog. (Oh, Oh! Now I've done it! )

Make sure you go to the monkey temple. A Buddhist temple, of course.
Monkeys everywhere! The place is amazing. The monkeys are hilarious. Lots of stairs to walk up.
Although you aren't supposed to pet the monkeys.
