Mountain Biking and Trail Rec's between Alamosa and Santa Fe

Postby mrburns » Wed Oct 31, 2012 12:28 pm

Hey guys, hoping for some recommendations from the collective. Heading down to Santa Fe this weekend for a birthday party. We are staying in Alamosa on Thursday night and we are looking for a good mountain biking trail between Alamosa and Santa Fe to ride Friday morning. We all ride quite a bit, but are not into super technical stuff. Maybe, something in 2-3 hour range? any suggestions are appreciated.

We are also planning on a hike on Saturday, anyone know anything about this trail?

Aspen Vista
Length: 10 miles
Degree of Difficulty: Moderate
Seasonal: 3 Season (Snow in winter: Snowshoe)
Driving Distance: 13 miles

This is the most popular trail in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The gradual uphill climb and the width of the road make it ideal for skiers of all abilities and ages. The road is closed to motorized vehicles including snowmobiles.

Directions: Follow Paseo de Peralta to Washington Ave on the North end of Paseo de Peralta. Turn away from the plaza heading north on Washington Avenue to artist rd (ski Basin rd). Follow the Ski Basin Rd. 13 miles. Access this trail from Aspen Vista Picnic Area, just beyond the 13 mile marker. Ample parking is available.

any suggestions for another hike would be great as well. We don't have all day, as we have to be back in town/showered, etc by 4. Kind of looking for a nice view, and we will prob have 4-5 hours max.

thanks,

burns

You might try mtbr, not sure you'll find enough mtb knowledge for that area here. I know there is good riding in South Fork and Penitente canyon, but that's backtracking a bit from Alamosa on your way to NM.
