Fourth Annual 14ers Winter Welcomer!

Need a climbing partner? Trying to form a hiking group for an outing?

Should we cancel or change the date due to winds?

Poll ended at Sat Oct 27, 2012 8:04 pm

1. Let's not cancel. Winter and wind go go together. Still down for Saturday!

2. Yes, let's cancel. Gusts to 55 mph are not my idea of a welcomer. Besides, I'm not very experienced, and I'd like something mellow to start out.

3. I'd really like to go, but maybe conditions will be better next weekend. I'd be down for Nov 3 or 4.

I felt the tug of a work deadline eating part of my mind away last night and succumbed to the pressure... And - I'll make it out when it's actually winter.

Climb on folks! Hope it was a great day.

Great day despite the slight cold and wind on the summit. The cookie back at the trailhead was awesome! I couldn't believe how many people we were able to get on the summit at one time. Look forward to seeing those group summit shots

My group lagged behind, but we made it, and it was one member's first 14er! Thanks for organizing :-D

A couple YouTube videos:
http://youtu.be/dFH9SHS3bE8 Sorry for how crazy bumpy this one is. YouTube's auto-fix actually made it worse so I went back to bumpy original.

Oops...one more pic. Btw there were other folks that looked far more "official" at photography so I am looking forward to seeing those.

Looks like quite a day! We’re the winds as strong as advertised? Looks like there was some blowing snow. A hardy group! =D>

We stayed lower and wore costumes on Green from NCAR. Dorthe was a penguin, Marcia a pirate, I was a cowboy and Snowball was a Mexican bandito.

It turned out to be a fun, yet brutal day. Very happy to see so many people and so many of us on the summit at the same time. If anyone is interested, I was clocking sustained 25MPH winds on the summit with a gust to 30MPH. Windchill was -19.2 degrees. If you felt cold, that is why.

Wow thanks for sharing this. That's colder than my summit night on Kilimanjaro! No wonder I started to worry about my fingers right below the summit. Coldest weather I've ever been out in.

So "fun" to hike with you all today. Sad I'm too slow to make it in for the summit picture. Frozen water bladder tube and -19 degrees is not exactly my idea of fun. Winter hiking is now scratched from my list of hobbies.

I had fun today. I can't wait to go again next year and next time I will remember to bring something to cover my face from the wind. :-D

My son and I had a real fun day! Besides our early morning off trail scenic route.
