Fourth Annual 14ers Winter Welcomer!

Need a climbing partner? Trying to form a hiking group for an outing?

Should we cancel or change the date due to winds?

Poll ended at Sat Oct 27, 2012 9:04 pm

1. Let's not cancel. Winter and wind go go together. Still down for Saturday!

2. Yes, let's cancel. Gusts to 55 mph are not my idea of a welcomer. Besides, I'm not very experienced, and I'd like something mellow to start out.

3. I'd really like to go, but maybe conditions will be better next weekend. I'd be down for Nov 3 or 4.

I will be there. Are there any carpools from Denver with room for one more (I am happy to chip in for gas, etc.)?

My son and I are leaving Thornton at 5am. We have a forester so we can take 2 people. PM me if you'd like a ride.

Denver climbers: I've heard mention of carpools so I thought I would try and firm up some plans. How does 6:15 at the Morrison PnR sound?

Out of curiosity, what are people thinking for a start time?

“There are two kinds of climbers: those who climb because their heart sings when they’re in the mountains, and all the rest.” - Alex Lowe

"There have been joys too great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I cannot dare to dwell; and with those in mind I say, 'Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

I wouldn’t plan on snowshoes. Spikes might be good to have along with a pole(s). The biggest issue will be dressing for the cold.
Mmmm, we’ll watch what actually happens with this storm! That’s a lot of wind along with the snow. There could be a few drifts and deposit areas but with a lot blown off.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 18. Wind chill values as low as -8. Breezy, with a west wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
