Climbing partner: Crestone Peak (standard) this Friday 10/12

Postby scottfarish » Mon Oct 08, 2012 10:34 am

Anyone interested in the standard route (red gully) of Crestone Peak this coming Friday (10/12)? I would most likely drive up late on Thursday night, camp at the trailhead/gate, then get an early start on Friday morning. That all depends on weather this week, too. If there is any mix of ice/snow in the gully, I'll save it for a another day.

PM me if interested.

I would go the weekend of the 19th if the weather holds - just in case you were looking for a partner

I can't go on the 12th but would definetly look at either Saturday 10/13 or Sunday 10/14. Weather looks best on Sunday.

I am planning on doing the Needle on the 19th-20th if the weather cooperates with a friend. Certainly wouldn't mind the company. Currently planning to drive to S Colony Lake TH Friday afternoon as far as we can and hike up to the lake then get an early start.

I can go. I did this same hike earlier in the season. I would love to do it again, assuming the gully is still dry. Do you know how the conditions are?

I do not - but I can guess...It's 2 weeks into October...

Someone posted conditions from last weekend here:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=37881

I summited Humboldt on Monday with NO snow but very strong winds and it looked like there was some thin patchy snow on broken hand pass, but I have no idea what the red gully looks like. I would bring microspikes. Keep an eye on the weather cause it looks like it could be really interesting.

Scott and I talked about it and found some info about a decent bit of new snow - and probably covering the gulley. We have decided to possibly try for next weekend.
