Holy Cross this weekend

Postby Wanderer » Mon Oct 01, 2012 12:38 pm

I'm thinking of camping Friday and getting a somewhat early start on the standard route (North Ridge) of Holy Cross on Saturday.

Anyone interested?

Considering, sent a PM I just don't want to be left alone on the mountain.

I'm coming from the Denver area also and am still trying to decide which is better: camping to avoid getting up early and driving, or getting up early and driving to avoid the cold.

Spent a cold night at the trailhead. In my opinion, get at least a few hours of sleep at home, and the drive down. I maybe got 1-2 hours of sleep trying to sleep at the trailhead.

Yeah screw that sleeping in the cold at the trail head, sleep in a warm bed and drive early, but then again I live in the mountains so it's not such a bad drive for me. ](*,) It's going to be snowing on Saturday, but then last time I trusted the weather report a couple of weeks ago I suggested to this poor guy to call off his Gray's and Torrey's climb because according to the weather report it was going to be snowing that day and when that day came; the weather cleared all up and it was beautiful and sunny. I felt bad. 8-[

Yeah, it sounds like the snow might clear up early Saturday, and may be partly sunny, but it will be a chilly day no doubt.

Check in here later Friday night if anybody's still interested?

Yeah...I'm out. Too cold for me. Not as die hard as I used to be; must be getting old.

Thanks for the interest all...maybe another time!

That's cool, hiking in sub freezing temps sounds more like torture than enjoyment. It's supposed to warm back up next week.

My view of the continental divide shows the IPW is relatively snow free from this last cold front. I bet Holy Cross is still in good condition, although weather calls for snow again next Saturday.
