Hi all,
Does anyone have any idea what the B/S/E area looks like? I was thinking about heading up there on Saturday morning to try and knock those out but wasn't sure if the 'tooth was dry or if it had gotten significantly wet to the point where I could still expect to encounter any of those issues this weekend.

Re: Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans Conditions
went up bierstadt on saturday w my girlfriend (her 2nd 14er!) and there seemed to be snow on the descent down to the low point on the ridge. i didnt really look too hard, but it didnt seem too bad. it looked like the exit ramp was dry, but hard to tell from the top of bierstadt.
on the trail up bierstadt itself, there is a little snow once you get to 13700 or so. nothing that makes life difficult, just a nice reminder that winter is on the way!

Re: Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans Conditions
Didn't see much on Sawtooth East side (the side you can see from Evans). There is some as you drop down from the summit of Bierstadt, but it wasn't thick on Sunday. Definitely could be avoided if you were so inclined.
Evans had patchy on the north facing slopes above 13,600ish. Nothing on the West face that you traverse from the sawtooth to the summit.
If you need a more thorough update, let me know!

You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know. - Rene Daumal

Re: Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans Conditions
I did beirstadt sawtooth evans from Guenella pass last Thursday 9-13 after the snow Wendnesday and there was snow on the down climb from Beirstadt and then on the ledges after the cross over. I didn't think it was too bad, but the snow was new and hadn't had a chance to melt and freeze again. The climbing before the cross over was snow free that day.
Safe climbing.

Re: Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans Conditions
Thanks for the tidbits.
It seems that the weather has been mostly good this week (and looks to be for Saturday morning as well, just a little chilly but hopefully not too much wind) so I'm hoping that whatever ice/snow may have been lingering since last week is gone. And, worst comes to worst then I do Bierstadt, get on to Sawtooth and see it's not going to happen and backtrack having to walk away with one summit for the day. I'm pretty excited about it so it's helpful to know where I might encounter trouble so I can prepare better.

Re: Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans Conditions
My friend and I are planning on climbing the Sawtooth this Saturday, too. Thanks for the beta. Guess we will just have to wait and see. I, too, am hoping that it got warm enough this week to melt the snow that was there. For those of you who were up there, was it a dusting? Or was it a few inches? Thanks for you input!

Re: Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans Conditions
Went last weekend. very little snow on the cross over to the other side of the sawtooth. i brought microspikes but never had to use them. it has been warm enough this week that i dont see a problem occuring, just watch the weather before the climb. so far it look like a "game on" weekend.
to answer your question: there was about an inch of snow on the plateau and one small ice patch on the sawtooth that caused no problem. im sure that patch has melted.

Climbed Bierstadt today. Mostly clear but some ice on the way up and a little bit of snow. It's all easy to skirt though.

My friend and I climbed Bierstadt/Sawtooth/Evans today. We had perfect weather! As of today, there wasn't any snow up there at all. It was pretty great! However, I heard that there is a chance of snow tomorrow.
Happy Climbing everyone!
