Hiking Maroon Peak--Entering the Park

Post by The Legend »

A friend and I are planning on hiking Maroon Peak tomorrow. We were going to leave the Denver area around 1am, and drive to the trailhead, but is there going to be a problem with getting into the park and hiking, since it does not seem open just to anyone. Would love some advice on this one. Not sure how this all works with the overnight parking and stuff.

You need to get there before 830 AM to park in the overnight backpackers parking lot. Be safe up there though - it was a rough weekend on those peaks.

Stop at the self pay board, pay the fee, park at the day use parking lot, and hike away. Be safe, and have fun.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.
