I would think only a bear would be strong enough to move it many feet. They like to hide their stashes too. The bears are ravenous now in their pre-hibernation gluttony.

That sucks Jim. I had a Bear drag off a small 200 pound
Elk carcass years back. Could have been a hungry critter.

So glad you found it, Jim.

One of Roach's Ten Commandments is: 'Never get separated from your lunch'.

I keep my pack very close to me at virtually all times. And I've seen them fall off climbing routes, down a mountain, into a crevasse, get attacked by marmots and critters.

Good that you found your pack!

Good you found it!

You know, I had a similar thing happened to me last year in the Elks: my sun glasses dissappeared after leaving them on top of a rock. We were the only ones camping there that night, so I never thought anyone took them. I searched everywhere the next day and could not find them, went for a hike, and on our return to campsite I was determined to find them. There were these hug holes on the ground, I loked at each one of them and finally saw the purple lace holding my glasses in one of those holes! With a stick I was able to retrieve them. Wharever took it chewed on it (on the holder).

So yeah it looks like a creature got your pack, pretty fast, maybe there were after salt... are there pack-rats in Co? maybe a marmot? but I would thing they would have eaten the food.

A goat? Strong enough to move the pack. Would like to lick the saltiness. Maybe less likely to tear inside for the other food. Easily spooked to abandon it nearby.

I also experienced a very recent (last weekend) lost i-Phone up in Teton National Park. I got it back and have since loaded an app called "Find My iPhone". It's free and can locate an iPhone and send an alarm, or a text mesage to appear on the screen or clear the memory, all remotely.
We did not think of the great open plains, the beautiful rolling hills, and winding streams... as "wild". Only to the white man was nature a "wilderness".

You might want to check your phone bill for calls to Mongolia.

Hey Jim,
Glad you found it. Good think you did not run into the bear that was stalking you!
