2012 Fall Colors

Postby ajkagy » Sun Aug 26, 2012 1:54 pm

I know it's a bit early, but there's already quite a few hints of color around the Crested Butte area. Does anybody have anything good to share yet?

Yes, lots of fall colors starting to pop up around Lake City. This was taken on the Colorado Trail.

Even hints in the Denver area especially among oaks and maples.
I'm guessing its partly due to the dryness.
And possibly due to may trees bloomed 4-6 weeks early, in Marc, due to the very warm spring.

bump. The Willows are starting to change by kite lake.

Let's keep up the observations, I'd really like to get some cool shots this year.

Fall colors were creeping into the Lead King Basin, Geneva Lake and Gem Lake this past weekend. Aspens are starting to turn in some areas, as well as ground vegetation taking on yellow and red hues. Suspect early colors are due to heat/drought stress this year.
Haven't had a chance to upload pics yet.

It's not Colorado fall colors, but it's fall here in Alaska. The trees are beautiful shades of yellows, oranges, and greens, and the tundra is full of vibrant red and brown earth tones. Unlike anything I've seen before. I took this yesterday, east end of Denali National Park on the way back from Talkeetna:

Any predictions for peak dates given the early spring and drought, I'm going around Sept. 29-Oct. 3 and am tentatively planning on having a look at the Bells, Kebler / Ohio / McClure, and maybe Grand Mesa.

I don't have any pictures, but the colors are starting up in RMNP, and some patches high up look about peak ALREADY...

Anyway, I would like to get out and take some really nice Fall pictures this season, does anyone know of the best places to find Aspen colors in the northeast part of the state? RMNP area, Poudre Canyon?
