FAQ and threads for those just starting to hike the Colorado 14ers.
I completed belford last weekend as my firsts 14er... I must say, it was a great hike but was tremendously more difficult than I had suspected. Bear in mind, it is 4600 foot gain in 3.1 miles from trailhead. According to GPS, in the first mile, you only gained 1000 feet of elevation which leaves you 3600 feet in 2.1 miles or just over 1700 per mile. Needless to say pretty steep. However, the views from the top are amazing... Just make sure to give yourself plenty of time to summit before noon.. I only had about 30 seconds on summit due to thunder and storms rolling in. Hike down is KILLER on the knees...
