Last night at the Stadt....Bierstadt

Postby yorksman » Fri Jul 13, 2012 9:07 am

It has been 4 years since I last shot Bierstadt, the last time I came away with a front cover of a Calendar. Who know's where this one will end up?

Canon 5DMKII, Canon 24-70mm f2.8, Singh-Ray 2 stop hard filter.

Enjoy!
Jody

Amazing picture. Thanks for reinforcing how much I suck at taking pictures :(

Fantastic image! Do you really like those Singh-Ray filters? I was looking at a set (.03, .06, .09) but DANG they cost! How would you rate B+W versus them and why did you end up with Singh-Ray? As a side, what do you think of the graduated NDs? Use them? Don't bother? I just don't like the tell tale 'tops of the mountain or trees being darker' thing.

Great shot! It looks like the willows were mowed or weed-whacked! Too clean to be real...

Guys this is nowhere the main trail so it will look different, the main trail is about 3/4 to the right of this shot. This is not one of the ponds that you walk by on the main trail. Talking about the main trail ponds about 9pm on my way back I spotted one moose, an older gentleman who I ran into in the parking lot said he had seen 5 on his way back. So if you are into moose spotting now is the time. Oh, I nearly slammed into a moose on the road when I was heading down, so be careful out there.

rking007 - as far as filters go Singh-Ray are good I believe Lee are better but more expensive, I have not used the B&W but a cheaper alternative is the Hitech Filters, have a look on http://www.2filter.com . Darkened tree tops etc is tough but there is no real way around it except normally to use a soft versus a hard line filter. As far goes as just getting by bracketing shots a lot of times you still can't the same look as you can by actually using a filter IMO. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
