I went up the Hogback Trail this afternoon and got some pictures of the fire. As I was leaving the trail a heavy storm was moving in with high winds, so I'm not sure what impact it will have on the fire.

Great pics Mindy...can you tell if things are improving or if the fire is moving away from the ridgetop?

For those of you in the pre-evac area, if for some reason the reins are lost on this fire an the evac order goes out - I have several rooms at my house in North Boulder and a small yard for a mutt. Mountain Woman, who is also a 14ers member and my roommate extended the same offer. Even if anyone needs a place temporary the offer is open.

PaliKona all I can tell you is that it is now dark and the mountain is NOT glowing. There is also suddenly a terrible thick smoke in the air. The wind seems to have calmed.

I just came back from Eldorado springs drive where I witnessed flames growing rapidly on the east side of south boulder peak, shadow cannon, and the South side of bear peak. I couldn't see anything on the east side of bear peak (from 36 in boulder) or on the north from boulder.

Commenters at the Daily Camera site are indicating they're seeing flames on Green Mtn, too. :(

That picture is unreal - it's sad to see Bear Peak go. The winds shifted last night; I went to sleep with a smoke-infested house and woke up with burning lungs. It's such a tragedy to see all of this happen (especially the Waldo Canyon fire) and hard to believe that half of the nation's firefighting fleet and resources are being used here in Colorado.
How long after arriving at someone's house is it appropriate to ask for the WiFi password?

That picture would be cool if it wasn't Photochopped to death. Terrible job on probably what would have otherwise been a spectacular shot. Would love to see the original if anyone personally knows the photog and can make it happen.

Headed out to get a few vantage points of the fire yesterday evening. Nothing worth noting except there was some visible crowning that could be viewed from the south side of the fire and the smoke plume was blowing mainly east northeast of the fire line. Was taking shots from 4:40 to about 6:30 and didn't see them start dropping tanks of anything 'til 5:15ish; doesn't mean it wasn't happening earlier though. On the way home down 93 to 72, we saw multiple cloud to ground strikes around Golden and could even make out the plume of the Waldo Fire down in the Springs.

From the east on the Boulder Overlook off US36:

Also from the Overlook:

From the southeast near a closed open space (heh):

Also from the southeast:

Again from the southeast. You can see a slurry bomber heading in for a drop to the left of the plume:

Anyone have any updates? From my office in Broomfield it seems like the smoke has subsided.
