Night hikeing a 14er ( time to start?)

Postby Photoguy32 » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:09 pm

I have set date to do a night hike / sun rise hike to the summit of Mt. Bierstadt. I want to be on top of Mt. Bierstadt when the sun rises. What time should we start out?

Steve

Really, Steve? How the heck am I (we) supposed to give you an answer?

1. How fast do you hike? Oh wait, I see you've done Bierstadt twice, therefore you should know how long it will take you.

2. When are you going? You do realize sunrise varies by time of year?

Once you know these two answers, you should be able to figure out your start time.

Come on man! :-k

PS Learn how to spell. Hikeing (sic)

Sunrise minus the number of hours it takes you to cover the distance and vertical. Plus a half an hour to set up your shot, I guess.

Like the Roach 13er book, it's out of print and in ridiculous demand. I might be able, in time, to get you a signed copy.

If not, I'll make sure you get one of the first off the press of Volume 2.

Thanks, but if I don't have Volume 1, I fear that I would be lost in Volume 2. Small steps, small steps.....

I have included a lengthy preface in Volume 2 to help those who came up short finding a copy of volume one. The preface has six chapters and is fully indexed to make it easy to use.

But I will try to talk my squeeze into giving up her copy for you. I'd have to scratch out the personalized inscription though. It's a little graphic and wouldn't really apply anymore.

Don't be too put off; 95% plus of the folks on here are great, then there are the few that always look for opportunities to bolster their egos by such nonsense as these responses. You can block individuals and generally not be bothered by their posts. Unfortunately, their posts will still show up when people reply with "quotes", as is the case here.

4 a.m. if you hike at a moderate pace. You'll gain the summit in about 2 to 2.5 hours.

Add an hour to your daylight hike time.
If you havent done a 14er like Bierstadt in the daylight, then we dont advise doing your first one at night. Bierstadt has swamps and invisible stream-edge ice (at night).

Bring at least tw LED night lights. They are little as $9 at Targets.
