New thread filter on home page

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Fri May 25, 2012 11:56 am

"Off Route" is not the only sub-forum that some members don't want to see on the 14ers.com home page, so I've added the option to filter out forums the home page list.

Simply click on the little gear icon above the forum list to bring up your site Display Settings page:

And check/uncheck forums on the right side of the Display Settings, Home Page tab:

Thanks to Terry and Marc for the suggestions on this enhancement - I really appreciate it!

Notes:
  • Off Route used to have it's own show/hide checkbox on the Display Settings page but that checkbox is gone and Off Route is now included in the list with all other sub-forums.
  • Off Route threads do not show up when you're not logged into the site but the rest of the forum filters will not be applied when you're logged off.

If you experience any problems using this new functionality, please post in the Site Problems and Resolution section of the forum.

Sweet functionality Bill. =D>

I have question/suggestion along these lines. So in Conditions Report/TH sections of the home page, when the mouse is hovered around, first few lines of the report is displayed even though the actual report is much longer. In the Forum section, this is shown only if the replies are small. Is it possible to change it in such a way that even first few lines are shown for longer replies too in Forum section too? Saves opening the topic only to realize the last post was some wisecrack or troll comment.

Yeah, I could change that. It's now on the list.

Thanks

Just to clarify...

With the new filtering in place, Off Route threads WILL show up by default, once you're logged in. If you don't want to see them, use the filtering (described above) to uncheck the Off Route sub-forum.

Nice change Bill - especially for us who may visit Off Route more than others.

And guys, like Bill would say, keep it (Off Route) clean! Good day.

Not really directly related, but it's just today that I noticed the 14ers icon when you mouseover a thread title. It's kind of annoying.

I added the logo to the help popup script on the site and forgot that the thread and TR preview windows also use that script. After working on that home page thread area all day, I agree that it's too much.
