Not necessarily. She's new, and may not know the difference.

Could we get this thread locked?
I am a little upset at how everyone has been criticizing Sarah.
We have beat this one to death.

In all fairness, there is only 1 person that really chose to criticize her - and repeatedly at that. I'm a little upset at that as well, but Astrobassman took the words right out of my mouth.

I was just talking with some folks about how winter mountaineering was almost unheard of for the "common folk" on this site not 3 or 4 years ago. With the increased popularity will come the steep learning curve. Learn and live to fight another day, but there is absolutely no reason to single her out.

What's done is done. Let's chalk this down in the learnings notebook and move on. This post-mortem sounds quite silly. Sarah, we spoke for a couple moments when you were on your way down. I was hiking with Colin and Aaron. I thought you had a great attitude about the whole thing. That is the main thing! Learnings will come over the course of time. None of us are free of mistakes so we should probably keep that in mind and not be so quick to judge. Get out there and have fun \:D/.

Glad to hear everyone made it out on their own. A SAR response would likely have required resources from the CSRB and a very long response time. Survival skills in this instance may well have required a prepared bivy in a snow cave with overnight gear. It obviously could have turned tragic. Search and Rescue in these parts is often more akin to Search and Recovery... :(

I may be heading back tomorrow (3/9) to take advantage of the trench and hit Cloud, possibly Rito Alto.

Winter Climbing - There seems to be an alarming increase in the number of things I know nothing about!!
Perseverance - The courage to ignore the obvious wisdom of turning back.
