Ken Kamler on Everest tragedy

Post by Kiefer »

I've known about this lecture for a while now and just recently rememberd it.
This is Ken Kamler giving a presentation about the Everest tragedy a number of years ago.
It's more or less about the sheer power of determination and will.
This is about 21 minutes long but absolutely riveting. Especially when he starts talking about Beck Whethers.

TED Talks

"When the worst disaster in the history of Mount Everest climbs occurred, Ken Kamler was the only doctor on the mountain. At TEDMED, he shares the incredible story of the climbers' battle against extreme conditions and uses brain imaging technology to map the medical miracle of one man who survived roughly 36 hours buried in the snow."

Way cool presentation, Kiefer -- thanks for sharing this link. Kamler's firsthand experience does indeed make for a "riveting" story from the Death Zone.

He has a whole book about the the human body and how it is able to overcome some of the harshest conditions. This story and others are analyzed throughout. It's called "Surviving the Extremes". Highly recommended, esp if this talk sucked you in.
