North Cheyenne Canon, Mt. Rosa Conditions
I was thinking of driving down to Colorado Springs to hike Mt. Rosa via North Cheyenne Canon and I was wondering if any locals could tell me what the trail conditions are like. It looks pretty warm this week, so how much snow is there up on gold camp road? Is the road to the parking lot clear?

The road to the parking lot (at High Drive/Cheyenne Road/Gold Camp Road) was clear on Jan 8th and we've had very little snow since then. The section of Gold Camp Road that you hike to the trail was snow- and ice-packed, and the trails were the same - wear micro-spikes.

The road up the canyon is almost always clear, unless you get there right after a storm. Given the dry winter, you probably won't need snowshoes right now either, although gaiters will probably help near the top.

Things haven't changed much since when Susan was there. I ran up Gold Camp Rd. to the Rosa turnoff, and it was packed down to ice fairly well in most spots. Maybe the snow is in better condition where it's less trafficked.

I was up on the peaks around San Luis on Saturday and the road up to that point had some icy spots that 2wd cars were having a hard time getting up. We also used snowshoes most of the day, though we were on North facing slopes.
