The videos work fine and I mostly think they're a nice addition.

However....

I think the Class 3 and above peaks are badly misrepresented by the flyovers. Wetterhorn looks like you just go up the ridge with no complications. South Maroon looks nothing like the photos. Sunlight looks like you just walk up the ridge at the end. I guess I'm just worried about a novice watching one of these and thinking those peaks don't look very difficult or complex. Topo software just isn't detailed enough for a flyover of terrain like that.

I understand your point completely but these are just one tool in the 14ers.com On-Line Guidebook. Through difficulty ratings, photos and text, the route descriptions make the difficulties pretty clear. More so, IMO, than paper guidebooks that lack detailed information and photos. Yes, someone could look at just a fly-over and think it's easier than it is, maybe I'll just put a warning on that page. If a climber is basing the difficulty of a route just based on a fly-over, they aren't planning properly. Of course we all know there are those out there that don't plan properly - I can't help that. All I can do is put out as much information as possible to assist that climber and hope they do their homework first.

Bill,

Understood was just voicing a concern that came to mind. Maybe a simple warning of something like "flyovers should only be used a general idea of terrain" would be enough.

Hopefully someone wouldn't just use a flyover as their only resource but you never know. All the information in the world doesn't necessarily help if someone doesn't use it properly.

For several I had to click the "try this" link, but one worked normally. Maybe it's a patience issue, because that doesn't make a lot of sense.

It seems like a great way to check your mental picture from topo maps. Thanks a bunch Bill; it's a great addition.
