Colorado Gives Day is TODAY only

Postby BillMiddlebrook » 06 Dec 2011, 10:16

Colorado Gives Day - TODAY ONLY - and the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI) is included!

I know, I know I post a lot about giving to the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI), but I do it because I feel it's important that we help them out. I also understand how difficult their job is when it comes to raising money to work on 14er trail projects. Lloyd Athearn (CFI's Executive Director) spends a huge amount of time working to raise money for the projects. Without contributions and grants, there would be no CFI trail work. So, if you haven't already donated to the CFI this year, I encourage you to help them out and today and take advantage of the Colorado Gives Day benefits. I made my annual contribution today.

Credit card fees will be waived for the recipient organizations first $50,000 raised and all participating organizations will share in the $300,000 Firstbank Incentive Fund based on the proportion of total donations their organization generates. I don't know how much the CFI will get from that fund, but it's hard money that will go to them based on how much we raise today. Once your on-line donation is complete, the system will display a confirmation letter that you can print for tax purposes - very helpful.

In case you don't know what the CFI does, here's a quick overview of work done in 2011:
563 volunteers on projects, resulting in 1,286 Volunteer days and 10,300 hours of applied work.
20 Field Crew staff (non-volunteers) applying 608 days of effort
12 Youth Corps individuals working 584 days on the peaks
4,216' of route delineation and construction (new trail work)
91,689' of trail maintenance and re-construction
33,972 sq. feet of trail restoration
9,775 hikers contacted through the Peak Steward process
Peaks where CFI performed major trail projects or trail maintenance: Mt. Yale, Holy Cross, Belford/Oxford, Bierstadt, Capitol, Elbert, Evans, Grays and Torreys, Huron, La Plata, Lincoln/Democrat/Bross, Massive, Missouri, Pyramid, Quandary, Sneffels, Uncompahgre, Wetterhorn

I've heard from several of you that the Colorado Gives Day site has been very slow at times. Some of you have gone through the process of entering a donation only to have problems completing the transaction.

I'm sorry about that but we don't have any control over their site; I think maybe they underestimated the volume requirements.

Ugh

Colorado Gives Day is being extended until noon tomorrow because of the Web issues.
"There have been joys too great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I cannot dare to dwell; and with those in mind I say, Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste; look well to each step; and from the beginning think what may be the end." - Edward Whymper

Go team!

From Lloyd Athearn (CFI Director) on Facebook...

As of 9 a.m., total is over $19,000 donated to CFI, including more than $5,700 from 91 first-time donors. Impressive! And they just keep coming in.

Any word on how much the CFI was able to raise altogether?
