Avalanche Awareness w/ Diamond Peaks Ski Patrol
Wednesday, December 7, 2011 - 7:00pm - TILT 221

A presentation on avalanche awareness and safety from the fine people of the Diamond Peaks Ski Patrol. This short talk will go over the basics of how avalanches happen, where they happen, and how you can avoid them while in the Colorado mountains. Presentations like these are a great place to start learning the necessary skills for safe travel in the backcountry, or to refresh your knowledge for the coming season.

DPSP Website

This is a FREE presentation. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Or, punch these coordinates into your favorite mapping site:

Disclaimer: For beginners, please understand that while very informative, useful, and well worth your time, this presentation is NOT a substitute for proper avalanche training. For those that are intending to spend time in and around avalanche terrain, I highly recommend considering a level one avalanche course.

Plus Denver area REIs have an Avy safety lecture almost every week until the end of winter.
They come in several different versions from a general introduction to specific topics, rescue techniques, equipment, terrain ...

George, any chance of DPSP adding another Avy 1 slot since the other two are full already?

Dave,

I think the answer would be no, simply because they don't have enough volunteers to run it more than twice a year at this point. Maybe in the years to come...

You're definitely not asking the right guy though, I'm really in no position to answer questions like that. You'd be much better off sending a message to one of the email addresses here.

Cheers

To the top once more. Beers at Avo's afterwards, as usual.

Since it looks like I am going to be in town tonight after all, I will try to make it there! I'll be the guy with a gray hoodie and crappy cold
