3D Route FLY-OVER Videos

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Tue Dec 05, 2006 5:54 pm

I'm going to start adding fly-over topographical MPEG videos to the routes. They will range in size from 3 to 10 megabytes in size, so they aren't small. Here are a few starters:

3D Topographical Fly-Overs

They can also be viewed from within the route descriptions by clicking on the maps tab and looking for this icon:

Bill, do I need tha latest version of Quicktime to view the videos? After I download a video, a big question mark displays on top of the quicktime symbol, and no video plays.

Hmmm, you shouldn't need anything special because they are just MPEG-2 files. Do you have trouble opening other video on the web?

Sounds like QT is the default player for ".MPG" files on your machine. I'll take a look at the file settings to see if I can make them more generic.

Can't see any of your videos either. Sorry.

I had a little trouble with playing the files as well. I jumped onto download.com and picked up an mpeg-2 decoder. Now they play fine on WMP or Realplayer. I guess it's just because I have an older system.

Bill this is another great new feature. I'm really impressed by the quality of the new content that you have added to the site recently. I think that you're really doing a great service to the 14er climbing community. Thanks.

No problem on the last fly over. Actually, no problem on any of them.
I think I saw a grizz on Elbert.
\Great addition to the site.

I can view the smaller ones, but I am getting that same question mark on the larger files. This is an awesome addition to the site..

I'm seeing the files just fine--look really great, except--the Elbert files are a repeat of the Quandary files in both versions.

Thanks Bill!

Ok, I updated the links at the top of the thread with the latest stuff. I'm going with the MPEG-1 files that are smaller. The window that comes up is mostly for "Windows" users, but I've included a link at the bottom where the MPG can be opened using your local media player software.
