It varies so much from year to year that it's impossible to generalize. Right now most canyons in the area are pretty wet.
I'm old, slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

We did this a couple of years ago in mid May. We had nice weather then, but there were several spots of smelly, stagnant water you must wade through (up to mid-thigh or so), muddy sections, and that one short rappel down the boulder-jam, so I'd wear appropriate, maybe disposable, shoes. There was an old rope left at the down-climb, but have no idea if anything is still there or its condition. Beautiful, long canyon hike, though.
Bad decisions often make good stories.

I did Buckskin Gulch from the Wire Pass Trailhead to the White House Trailhead - about 21 miles - in a long day trip in May about 3 years ago. Beautiful, but as the previous poster mentioned, there was lots of pools of muddy water to bypass (perhaps 20-25 of them.....up to waist deep). Feet definitely take a beating being wet and muddy for a long period of time - so plan your footwear accordingly. Water and mud levels change drastically though, and I don't have current conditions. Bogley.com is a good forum to watch and post some questions.

I did it late last November and it was dry
I am unable to walk away from the mountain without climbing it. An unclimbed mountain tugs at my consciousness with the eternal weight of time itself. Until I've pressed my face into it's alpine winds, hugged it's ancient granite walls, and put it's weathered summit beneath my heal I'm unable to resist it's attraction.Knowing nature gives the mountain more time than she gives us adds urgency to the obsession. As has been said before; the mountain doesn't care.

It can wait forever. I cannot.
