Mt. Yale--I'm still a 14er virgin
Oh well--It was going to be my first time and I was really excited, but the weather was pretty rough. We decided to give it a go anyway. The clouds, rain, snow and occasional very brief patches of sun teased us all the way up. Anyway, we got about 200 yards from the summit when the blizzard hit us hard. We couldnt see more than 5 or 6 feet in front of our faces. Couldn't see the peak or any of the cairns on the boulder field near the summit. So, we sadly, but I think wisely, made the decision to turn back. Better safe than sorry, but I'll be back!! It was still fun anyway! At least I know that had it not been for the snow, I would have made it and that makes me feel pretty good!

Did you try today, or yesterday? If yesterday, what group were you? My wife and I might have passed you on the way down.

Good work making it that far! The good news is the mountain will most likely be there later for you to summit then.

Great job, though! Yale is one of the harder Class2 peaks there in terms of exertion that I've done, and you have a fantastic mountain experience to draw from now. Go get it again!

My hubby and I went up yesterday (Friday)and saw only 2 other couples and a single guy coming down just above timberline, so I'm sure you were one of them. Its was a great time and I really hope to do it again soon!

Thanks for the support all! I'm a mid-life starter and have wanted to do this all my life. Finally getting around to it, so I'm sure not going to give up now! I'm hooked, even though it was just an "almost"!

Mt. Yale will be there tomorrow and the next day and the next day and the next day . . . There are also 57 other 14 ers and 1000 other 13ers (don't forget them), and countless 12ers to climb. Keep climbing! - Bigtrout

Don't give up. Try it again on a nice sunny day and you will make it!

Green jacket?
They will always be there for you. Bierstadt is a perfect quick one if you just want to tick one.
