Does this happen often? about once a week I can't get on between 9pm and about 1am (don't ask why I'm even up then), it says that an error occurred while loading the site.
whats life unless you live it?

It happened on April 14th, July 21st and tonight. Not always at the same time but between 9pm and 11pm the site gets massive traffic and sometimes has a problem. Last time it was a DoS attack from another country, not a server problem. Tonight it was a server process gone wild.
:dead

Sorry for the problems.

When a Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack or other major problem occurs, it's difficult for me to get into the server in a timely manner because the server is sitting in a datacenter in San Jose. I get notified when it's happening (email + text message) but trying to get to the server via a remote connection doesn't always work too well when the server is having troubles. Frustrating. Sometimes I end up going through the hosting company tech support but their support has gone down hill in recent months. I used to always get a very helpful person from the U.S. but now I get a person from the other side of the globe, with poor english.

Just curious, Bill -- are the DDoS attacks on 14ers.com itself or on the service provider? Another blog that I'm on recently went through a MAJOR DDoS attack that lasted several days. Some people were pointing fingers at the Russian government since it's the largest platform being used for political dissonance.

I wonder who would have the most to gain from a disruption of service to 14ers.com. :-k

The Russians. That explains it. They are pissed! Check out the hat this guy is wearing on top of their highest peak!

Hey, Ian! Congrats again on that. Did you ever get a TR written up?

The attack was against the 14ers.com server. Looks like some folks in China aren't happy with me.

Ian, looking good!

is the site hosted on a cloud or dedicated?

Like many others I couldn't get on either but didn't worry. Bill's on top of the problem, as usual. Glad we have a truly dedicated Site Administrator to correct the problem and minimize the incovenience.

Thanks

China, there seems to be a pattern here. We recently had a 14ers.com member on top of Everest!
