Avatar - One of the symbols of my dorm in college. Legend has it that when our dorm was reopened after being shuttered for a couple of decades, it was infested with mice, rats, and other vermin. So our nickname was The Vermin. It's a rat in a tux holding a martini (I couldn't find a clearer image).

Name - A name some people called me in high school and college (and sometimes they still do). It's a play on my real name.

Quotes - Yoda gave some good advice in "Empire." It was pretty much downhill from there.
And the other is from a man whose martial arts system I studied, I think it's a pretty accurate assessment of some folks.
"Mind what you have learned. Save you it can." - Yoda

First post... \:D/

Film and mountains...my two favorite things in the whole wide world.

So...Tim the Enchanter...from Monty Pythons---he's doing his thing up on a mountain

And my name...well...a nice thing you can find on a mountain...specially in Europe!

Cheers.

Avatar: My oldest son and I on the Needle about six years ago with KC in the background. A spectacular day on perhaps my favorite mountain. Certainly in my favorite range; the Sangres are sacred ground in more than name. Highpilgrim comes from a movie favorite of mine: Jeremiah Johnson. The main character is called Pilgrim by Bear Claw Chris Lapp and I just identified with Johnson's absolute love of the mountains, even with the hardship and difficulty they imposed.

I tried to use Pilgrim alone, but it was taken.

The signature lines are more recent.

The first is an expression of the loss I felt for Clarence Clemons, the sax player for the East Street Band who died last week. His sax solo on Jungleland is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard in forty years of paying attention to a wide range of music. RIP, Big Man.

The second is from Hunter Thompson, the original Gonzo journalist. It implies a tenet of mountaineering that I think is paramount: Rely only on yourself to get out of trouble. Self sufficiency. Don't plan for others to remove your ass from the frying pan once you've gotten yourself there...

Amanitas are all over the Colorado mountains...very common. Look in the "show us your shrooms" thread.

Didn't realize your screen name was a reference to JJ, but I guess that's what this thread is for. 8) I always thought Hatchet Jack would be a good one, or Del Gue. Such a great flick.

My avatar is Grace Slick at Woodstock. No real significance other than it's a cool photo of a great singer from one of my favorite bands.

Still haven't come up with a suitable signature...

Don't know where my screen name is from?? "It'd be a lot cooler if you did..."

I recognized you Grace...she was hot. And the Airplane was great, even if the Starship was not quite.

Avatar - Me topped out on Belford during the 2011 Spring Gathering - first of the year... Hope it'll change soon.

Screen Name: anagram of my first and last name... The numbers reflect an important year of some sort.

Sigs:

1. Me (not who I am friends with... I get that a lot.)
2. My weight loss from Fall 2009 to Summer of 2010 - 72# - it got to 78 I just didn't care to update it... "Life is full of obstacle illusions" - speaks for itself, aka "you can do anything if you see past what is immediately stopping you."
3. One of the early truths learned about asking fellow hikers on the trail "how much further?"

I neglected to give the Big Man his due. Here's a clip and if you're not a Bruce fan, skip to 4:20, to hear the sax solo alone.

Remember what the dormouse said;
"Keep YOUR HEAD"

A good mountaineeing tenet I think.
