NEW: Site Alerts!

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Sat May 28, 2011 9:57 am

You can receive email alerts (or to your smart phone) when new content is added to 14ers.com! After you set up your alert(s), you'll be notified when someone adds content specific to your alert.

So far, alerts can be set for the following:
- Trailhead Status Updates (alert by trailhead)
- Trip Reports (alert by peak)
- Peak Condition Reports (alert by peak)

To set up your alerts, use the ImageManage Email Alerts link found on the main trip reports page, peak conditions and trailheads.

Here's a look at the Alerts Page:

To send the email to your smart phone as a text message (SMS), you must enter the appropriate email in the alert. This is usually a combination of your cell phone# and your wireless provider's SMS gateway suffix. For example, Verizon Wireless users can put ' @ vtext.com' after the mobile phone number, like this: 3035551212 @ vtext.com. Other carriers have a different suffix and most of them should be listed on the Wikipedia - List of SMS Gateways page.

Was thinking.

How about a 14ers.com pseudo Amber alert for dogs and missing hikers. Someone could initiate an alert that would go out to cell phones of those who subscribe to the alerts.

To make it easier to see the alerts you have in place...
When you set Trailhead Status or Peak Condition alerts, the trailheads/peaks will be highlighted on the main TH Status and Conditions pages.

Nice. Is there a limit to how many alerts you can have active at any given time?

Even without the alerts (nice touch) the 14er/13 trail table is a fine reference for those of us who don't get out a often as we would like.

We can now receive alerts when different types of Gear Classifieds are added to 14ers.com.

To set up your alerts, use the ImageManage Alerts page.
