Tim Cochrane was a fixture in the Colorado EMS/mountain rescue community for over 30 years. He was the founder and long-time operations chief of Vail Mountain Rescue, participated in the operation of the statewide Colorado Search and Rescue Board (CSRB), and was a past president of the national Mountain Rescue Association. One could write pages on his involvement in and contributions to both the SAR and outdoor recreation communities.
I only had the opportunity to personally meet Tim once: last June at a national conference in Juneau. I was amazed at how many people from around the country he knew and how many knew him - and not just that they knew him, but that it was like they were old friends. That was the sort of guy Tim was. He definitely carried a sense of life with him and was a lively and gregarious person.
Tim passed away Sunday night, less than a year after being diagnosed with colon cancer.
Godspeed, Tim, and thanks for everything you did.

RIP Tim. You will be missed by Colorado's SAR community and by many others.
