I might sleep at the trail-head Friday night and start on saturday around 6.30-7.00am. If Quandary gets new snow in the next days, I might be on my AT skis.

I would love to join in on the ascent for sure.
I have never climbed that mtn before and I dont have squat to do this weekend.
On that note, do I need any special gear of any kind besides water and some guts (ha. ha.)?
According to 14ers.com, it seems to be a fairly mild ascent.
Anyway, although I'm a bit new to making it a point to reach the top of a mountain, I have been hiking and whatnot for as long as I can remember.
If you guys are down please let me know through here or call, or text. 720-285-0416 . J

If not no worries. Peace

We will all have full winter gear including snow shoes. Looks like there is a chance of snow and a high of 18.

Well if tennis rackets count as snowshoes then I am good to go.
But seriously, thanks for the heads up.
I'll see about some snowshoes.
Hopefully I will be able to make it, if not you all have a blast.

Looks like I won't be able to make it tomorrow.

Might try Quandary next Saturday if things work out.

Alright gents, here is the update on Quandary conditions. The first 3/4 mile or so of trail is solid boot pack. Then it gets a bit more sketchy - the storm last night dropped a few inches of new powder that is blowing around. There are a bunch of tracks going in different directions (most of them used for ski ascents), so the key is to stay on the hard stuff. Snowshoes are a must in the soft spots in my opinion, although as things settle boots might be ok in a few days.

Once you get above the tree line, everything is boot packed and solid. There is definitely some wind loading and hard slabs on some slopes, I stayed to the left and on the ridge to avoid them.

It was really windy when I was up there today - I'd say gusts were around 55mph or so. I'm no expert at guesstimating wind, but a few gusts knocked me off my stance and one put me in the snow (I was using ski poles for stability). With the new snow I experienced a few short whiteouts. I didn't have anything to measure temps, but it was chilly when the wind got moving. I just got some Mountain Hardware mitts and was glad I had them. The actual summit was surprisingly calm, I'd like to figure out the physics behind why that was...

Overall it was a good day. Drop me a message if you need more info. I'll be posting a full trip report soon.

Have fun out there tomorrow, and be safe!

-Mike
