Now you gotta admit, that was funny. Almost sounds like he's been researching your posts. Scary. But funny.

Of all the fees that are collected by USFS, NPS, BLM and other federal land management agencies, they can only retain a fraction for operation expenses. The rest goes into the General Fund of the US Treasury. I don't mind paying extra fees if it result in the better management of our natural resources. Give these guys a break. Their employees, as a whole, are extremely dedicated and whatever fees we pay for using these resources is a bargain.

No one is denying that the employees of the USFS do alot for our lands and forests.

WE do mind paying additional fees however. And the USFS is not underfunded. As I have posted before, the USFS budget has grown, significantly, over the last decade. Fees were not intended to be deposited back into the general fund. If this is the case, it is one more reason more fees should NOT BE ENACTED. Ralph Regula, author of the FLREA said this when introducing the bill: "Accountability is essential on the part of the agencies that value these funds. They must
be accountable for the use of their receipts and use them to reduce the backlog maintenance and for visitor service enhancements."

So since you obviously have access to the information, please let us know for FY09 what percent of Fee receipts your district is using for operating expenses, what percent is used for backlog maintenance, and what percent has gone back to the general fund. By the end of the week to soon?

Thanks.
I don't care that you Tele.

I hope they close the road and all of you lazy fools have to use the Chicago Lakes trail. Or better yet, from the Guanella Pass. Please make sure you use the Georgetown side for your access. You are mountaineers right?

A lot of us lazy fools already summit it from Chicago Lakes or Guanella Pass. If you decided to explore this site instead of using it solely to butt your nose into a single subject, you just might realize that most of us who hike regularly actually attempt to avoid roads and well-travelled areas.

+1 ... JE242, if you would indeed read other threads and check individual profiles, you'd find many of us finished our 14ers long ago, without 4WD, from obscure trails, and before the fees started showing up. And, some of us continue to backpack in, not use 4WD, and select secluded peaks to climb. Your ignorance and saracasm are not helpful.
As if none of us have ever come back with a cool, quasi-epic story instead of being victim to tragic rockfall, a fatal stumble, a heart attack, an embolism, a lightning strike, a bear attack, collapsing cornice, some psycho with an axe, a falling tree, carbon monoxide, even falling asleep at the wheel getting to a mountain. If you can't accept the fact that sometimes "s**t happens", then you live with the illusion that your epic genius and profound wilderness intelligence has put you in total and complete control of yourself, your partners, and the mountain. How mystified you'll be when "s**t happens" to you! - FM
