Yeah, I'll have to add some notes on the page so we are all ranking them based on similar criteria. As far as routes like El Diente's N. Face, it may be better to rank based on "ideal" conditions for the route, not necessarily dry. With the right spring snow, that route is excellent and not too difficult.

There are so many variables here and many people will rank based on how their climb went on a given day, instead of only considering the general difficulty of the route. Once we get a lot of rankings, the data can be averaged to provide more useful info.

I added some criteria to the page that might help us rank them in a similar way. Let me know if you have other criterial that might be helpful.

Thanks!

Now there's a page to view the average results of the lists that have been entered so far (53 as of Saturday afternoon)...

14ers Ranked by Difficulty (an average of lists entered by 14ers.com users)

Rank the List Yourself (once you've ranked the list, it will end up in the stats page above)

These links are now available on the ROUTES pull-down menu of the 14ers.com home page.

Bill,

I had a thought... In tabulating the average results of all users, is there any way to cross-reference each user's personal Difficulty Rankings against their "14er Peak List" (and exclude peaks they haven't climbed) so as not to skew the results? I haven't fully thought through the implications of this, but it's hard for those of us with only a few peaks under out belt to avoid messing up the averages.

Better yet, maybe you could put a filter that prevents anyone with less than "X" peaks from being included in the overall ranking. That way us "up and comers" can still keep our ordered lists, but we won't skew the results until we've met the magical number (whatever that might be).

Just some thoughts from a "math guy". :-)

You're right, I already see where numbers are being skewed - Longs is a good example.
I'll look at it today and see if there's a way to xref with checklists. Otherwise, I'll probably have to limit the use of some lists in the averages.

Thanks!

I just changed the ranking page to cross-reference your Personal Peak Checklist. If you have a checklist, peaks you have NOT climbed will be gray in color.
If you don't have a Personal Peak Checklist on file, all of the peaks will be black.

I've also set the "default" list (the list order before you begin to make changes) to a fairly good representation of the difficulty order. Before it was just grouped by difficulty and then sorted by elevation and I noticed a lot of people were not ordering the Class 2 and Class 1 peaks, causing the averages to be off.

This turned out great, I really like it. I think not including peaks that you haven't climbed is exteremly important; glad you were able to link that. Thanks!

Maybe I am missing something, but how does one view other members' ranking list?

Any chance you could provide a "reset to default" button so I could begin again?
