West Elk Peak & The Castles

Post by Brad »

I plan on camping Friday at or near Lost Lake and was wondering the best approach for West Elk Peak. It looks like Mill Creek Trail will work but it will be a haul. Is there another trail I may be overlooking? Is hiking in from Lost Lake an option?

We went to the W Elks last summer using Mill Creek.
We went up to Storm Pass and summitted W Elk Peak from there.
So it is doable from there. Great hike with cool rock formations!
After summitting, we went down the other side of Storm Pass (I can't remember the name right now) and packed out a different way. All told, it was a three day/two night backpack.
